2025 Lesson Study Alliance Summer Institute: Teaching through Problem-Solving Online workshop Session 2
In this online workshop, teams learn about the exciting approach used in Japan, Teaching Math Through Problem-solving (TTP), and are guided through lesson study to develop a TTP lesson to be tested in the following school year. This workshop is a great way for teachers to learn about these two powerful practices – one for better student learning, and one for better teacher learning.
Lesson Study Alliance has been conducting this summer institute since 2006, to rave reviews. Since 2022 it has been available online. Teams work together in a space convenient for them while interacting with Lesson Study Alliance leaders by video link, making this workshop accessible to teachers everywhere.
Online TTP experience: Magic Squares
Led by Akihiko Takahashi, TTP Network will be piloting an online lesson using LoiLoNote School for the participants to experience a TTP. This pilot program aims to test a newly developed TTP lesson, such as the “Magic Square” that is available on this site, with educators to see if these lessons can be used online for upper elementary to lower secondary students to experience an example of TTP. The duration of this pilot session will be less than one hour, including the participants' feedback session. Based on the feedback, TTP Network will expand its development of TTP online resources, making them available to educators for free use in their classroom or online classes.
