BIO

Akihiko Takahashi serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Lesson Study Alliance and is Professor Emeritus at DePaul University, where he spent 21 years teaching mathematics and mathematics education. Before entering higher education, he gained nearly two decades of experience with Lesson Study as a classroom teacher and teacher leader in Japan.

After earning his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, he began his career as a mathematics teacher educator and researcher. Since then, he has worked with schools and educators around the world to improve mathematics teaching and learning through Collaborative Lesson Research, an approach to Lesson Study that he co-developed with a colleague.

His scholarship has resulted in more than 80 journal articles and book chapters in both English and Japanese, with a focus on teacher professional development and the implementation of Lesson Study.
